Five thousand years ago, each Territory began throwing up psychic walls to protect their own, precious Queens. Now some have forgotten the past and others are so desperate for Queens that these impenetrable walls have dropped to reveal five Territories with very different ways of coping. Criminals rule, men are forced to serve as studs, women are put in gilded cages for their "own protection", rulers hunt down their own people, and one Territory is so desperate as to look for Queens to steal and bring home.
